Formed in January 2009, the Lobby Group is an online community triggered by the ongoing worldwide financial crisis.
The contributors are concerned citizens from a multitude of backgrounds and professions, ranging from retail employees to financial experts to farmers and as such represent remarkable cross-section of our society. Despite this diversity, all share a common belief- that this current crisis is a frightening and disastrous product of what we now feel are dangerously flawed political and economic systems.
We believe that elected officials, financial institutions and industry leaders are using these political and economic systems to serve no other purpose than self-preservation and self-enrichment. This is contrary to the welfare of the population of the UK and the people of the world and it is obvious that this is contributing to a global economic, environmental and social crisis.
We call for significant changes in the conduct and attitude of government and commerce, as our interests are not being served despite being the ones footing the bill.
The Lobby Group believe that we need-
*Re-organisation and genuine regulation of the banking system and public sector financial institutions.
*Increased accountability and responsibility from elected officials and other persons of public office.
*A publicly honest appraisal of proposed policies detailing the advantages and disadvantages of a given policy proposal backed up by data.
*Investment in and encouragement of the re-growth of domestic industries, including but not limited to education in core skills such as engineering, science and agriculture.
The Lobby Group’s immediate aims include-
*Provision of an online resource for debate and discussion of the relevant issues.
*Developing and publishing a manifesto outlining proposals for political and social reforms.
*Finding a means to influence the decisions of parliament and the policies of public sector organizations.
The Lobby Group is, and will continue to be, free from any association with or controlled by any political party. We are instead united in our desire, as informed and empowered members of society, to bring about a halt to the reckless abuse and misuse of the political and economic processes. In doing so, we hope to encourage genuine regulation of the activities of business and industry.
